One of the main deliverables for the Summit will be an online database of climate data.
The platform for this, Wikiearth, will store peer reviewed data and have a variety of interactive displays. This will allow researchers and students from all over the world to collaborate on projects and avoid overlapping information. The website will allow scientists and researchers to access and manipulate relevant data to further the information base.
WikiEarth is the first collaborative earth and ocean science data website of its kind. The internet-based tool will allow scientists, academics, graduate researchers and students to share climate change data, citable results and the social implications of research findings. An easy to use platform allows users to filter information geographically or across related data fields. Imagine a 3-D sphere, a globe with multi-layered dimensions constantly growing and updating as it is infused with peer reviewed scientific material. What will set WikiEarth apart is its unique ability to filter and classify information. Using an open source ontological data entry system will allow researchers to extract and use data from the website with ease.
